 Frequenly Asked Questions
  • Do I need custom-fit golf clubs?
It's possible. Everyone is unique and come in different shapes and sizes so why shouldn't their golf clubs? Most times, custom-fitting involves minor changes such as grip size or lie angle, but we take into account every detail so that your clubs are truly custom-fit for you.

  • Why do I need to regrip my clubs?
The grip is one of the most important components on golf club and the only part of the club that you actually touch. Grips are made of materials that age and wear as a function of time and use. Ozone, heat, dirt and oils from your hands all age your grips and cause the natural degradation of the grip. The traction that a fresh grip provides lets you hold the club lightly without the subconscious fear of losing the club during your swing. This relaxed state promotes proper swing mechanics and wrist action. While a worn grip causes you to grasp the club tighter, causing arm and wrist tension that inhibits proper swing mechanics and leads to a loss of power and control. A fresh set of grips is an inexpensive and fast way to bring a noticeable change to your game.

  • Can fresh grips really improve my game?
By themselves, fresh grips can only allow you to approach your potential as a golfer. They can't overcome a bad swing, or poor alignment, or any of the other faults that bedevil even the best golfers. But a national survey of golfers showed that 66% of those who had clubs re-gripped showed an average drop of three to four strokes per round!

  • When ordering or purchasing a set of clubs, can Golf Etc. build or adjust the clubs to fit me, such as adding an inch in length, and does it cost me extra?
Yes, We can customize the clubs to your indivual game to include grip size, length, lie angle, and shaft flex. The custom fitting service does have additional cost but isn't taking your game to the next level worth it?

  • Which shaft flex will work best for me?
In order to determine your proper shaft flex, we need to conduct a fitting to determine how fast you swing the golf club. This is the most accurate way to determine what flex will work best for you.

  • Can I demo your clubs?
Yes, we have an assortment of demo equipment that can be used in our hitting area to help you decide which club fits you best.

  • Loft and Lie Angle Adjustments - Is it important for my game, and how often should I get them checked?
Let's talk about lie angles first. Many golfers think that the direction of the ball will go off line because the toe or the heel of the club digs into the ground (incorrect lie angle). However, the real reason is because the incorrect lie angle causes the face plane or loft of the club to become tilted. Because of that, it would be easy to understand why the lie angle on your short irons (9, PW, SW) are much more important than the lie angle on your long irons (3, 4, etc.). If you are having problems with the direction control of your short irons, come see our clubmaker for a dynamic lie angle check. Don't forget, graphite shafted clubs also need proper lie angle adjustment. Loft angle is also very important. Clubs as they come from the factory, have a manufacturing tolerance built into them. In many cases, it will be plus or minus 2 degrees. As an example a 7 iron could be 2 degrees weak and an 8 iron could be 2 degrees strong and most likely, you would be hitting both clubs the same distance. When getting your clubs adjusted for lie angle, your Clubmaker will also check your lofts at the same time. We recommend all golfers getting their clubs checked for loft and lie at least once a year by a club maker.

  • I have heard a lot about "Frequency Matched" clubs; Is that something that will help me?
Frequency Matching is a process of measuring shaft flex. Most clubmakers use a frequency analyzer to help them build a set of perfectly matched shafts that go into custom clubs. Frequency is measured in cycles per minute (CPM) versus the old method of trying to designate shaft stiffness by using "R" or "S" flexes. The problem is that one company's "R" is another company's "S". However with using frequency measurements, every shaft measurement can be the same. What does this mean to you as a golfer? Usually every golfer has a favorite club in their bag , let's say a 7 iron. A Club Making Professional can measure that club and duplicate it or by measuring the other clubs in your bag, they can also explain why you don't like those particular clubs.
